Gymnasts from Kimberley hope to join Brazil Festival in October─── CASEY-LEE ANTHONY 12:25 Thu, 11 Apr 2024
“The event is aimed at fostering and developing Gymnastics For All (GFA) in Brazil and South America.”
The Floors Gymnast Club from Kimberley has been invited to participate in a festival in Brazil in October. The gymnasts have participated in competitions ranging from the World Gymnaestrada event in Amsterdam, the Club Festival in Bloemfontein, and the Gym Games which took place in Johannesburg in October last year.
The club was selected and invited by the Gymnastics Federation of Brazil together with the organization SESC organisers to the festival that happens once every two years. The club was selected upon being discovered from a YouTube video posted last year.
“The event is aimed at fostering and developing Gymnastics For All (GFA) in Brazil and South America with a programme composed of workshops, round tables, and gymnastics festivals. The eleventh edition of this event will happen in October. This is the event our team has been invited to attend” said team manager Sharon Miller.
The club has been doing exceptionally well in representing the Northern Cape and South Africa at large. It is in constant meetings with the organisation committee to sort out the logistics and price ranges with the Brazil counterparts.
However, seeing that they have been on the move through South African competitions and having to save for the World Gymnaestrada Competition they are now looking for possible sponsors for the upcoming games in Brazil. They will be the first South African Gymnast Club to participate in the event.
