“Remember, never give up, regardless of the challenges you face.”
A Eunice High School learner has graced the runway at the London and Milan Fashion Weeks.
Shelby Burri (17) regarded her participation as the most significant educational experience of her year to date. She gained valuable insights into both the industry and herself, despite various challenges.
“It’s an experience I would love to repeat many times. Meeting the agents and learning about their practices in this part of the world has thrilled me,” Burri said.
She has been focusing on maintaining her skin and overall health. She diligently practiced her runway walk, worked on improving her sleep patterns, and prioritised her mental well-being.
“I follow numerous renowned fashion houses and local brands on social media. Researching past trends and forecasting future ones is a hobby I truly enjoy.”

Among many cherished memories, networking with designers, models, hairstylists, and makeup artists was her top favourite. She gained invaluable knowledge from them.
“Remember, never give up, regardless of the challenges you face,” was her advice to aspiring models. “You are capable of achieving all your dreams. Confidence is key amidst obstacles – love yourself, work hard, and success will follow!”
Maintaining a proper sleep routine and staying hydrated are essential in London and Milan. The challenge of early morning rehearsals, starting at 07:00, is amplified when one is tired and dehydrated.

Her favourite designers with whom she has worked are Blueprint. effect from New York. The uniqueness and beauty of their clothes, coupled with the designers’ kindness and positivity, made collaborating with them a remarkable experience.
“This entire journey has broadened my horizons and altered my perspective on the industry. Networking with people from around the world has proven crucial in this field,” she said.
Overcoming issues with self-love and confidence was her most significant challenge.

She is waiting for an Italian modelling agency that is considering offering her a contract and has extended an invitation for her to work exclusively with them in Milan for three months.
Burri is set to travel to Paris in May to participate in the European Model Showcase. Lize Potgieter, another model from Bloemfontein will also be participating in the showcase.
