“We are definitely breaking the four Guinness World Records tomorrow.”

A Vanderbijlpark business organisation plans to break four Guinness World Records on Saturday (16/3) at the Emerald Resort and Casino.

The Golden Triangle Chamber of Commerce wants to knit a 35 km scarf, make the biggest serving of potjiekos, butter 1,000 slices of bread simultaneously, and cut 1,000 loaves at once, which will be served with the potjiekos like a bunny chow.

“All I can say is the Vaal is going to rock this weekend,” said Golden Triangle Chamber of Commerce member Alice de Jager. “We are 100% on track, and we have the biggest stage that will entertain everyone. We are sure we are breaking four world records tomorrow.”

“When I was on the site this morning, more than 20 km of the 35 km scarf had been laid down, and we still have many scarves left.”

The scarf depicts Africa surrounded by oceans, made up of 35,000 scarves 1 m by 20 cm.

Rocking the Vaal is a celebration of food, music, and community. The day promises excellent Afrikaans entertainment with Tarryn Lamb, Ruhan du Toit, Refenste, Jo Black, Riaan Benade, Martin Bester, and Samantha Leonard.

A ticket includes your share of the potjiekos and bread, a raffle for the Diamond Drop where a diamond worth R50,000 can be won, the evening’s Afrikaans show, and 50% off entry to Animal World and Aquadome for the day.

“I would love to thank all the ladies who helped us make the scarf,” said De Jager. “The scarves will only be kept together for the sake of measurement and photographs; after that, they will be divided and returned to their respective churches and organisations to be given away to the less fortunate.”
