Two mayor committee member of the Matlosana Local Municipality is being investigated for allegedly stealing the Klerksdorp-based council’s fuel and misusing a municipal vehicle.

Speaker Stella Mondlane called for calm pending investigations into the allegations, said mayoral spokesperson Nick Mapheelle. “The Office of the Speaker … has noted with concern allegations of misconduct levelled against two of our councilors in the municipality and this matter is now in the public domain.

“The Office of the Speaker commits to conduct diligence on ensuring that the allegations are probed promptly to salvage the institutional credibility of the municipality.”

He said councilors are guided by the Code of Conduct and other legislations on which they have been inducted. “The registered allegations against the councilors (will) be subjected to the necessary scrutiny without any fear nor favour and the outcome of the investigations and its recommendations will be communicated publicly in due course.”
