"The death of the six SANDF members came after another tragic death of other members of the army who passed away a week ago."
The South African Defence Force (SANDF) has released the names of the six victims killed in the wildfire that ripped across the training combat centre at Lohatla in the Northern Cape.
“Departed warriors will be missed and remembered for their fearlessness, sacrifice and defiant spirit throughout their military careers,” SANDF Major Rene Mercuur said. Members who met their untimely death following the wildfire that spread from Kathu to the Lohatla SA Army Combat Training Centre are Staff Sergeant Abraham Desember Morajane, Staff Sergeant Sipho Berrington Cele, Corporal Sithembiso Wiseman Ndwalane, Corporal Noxolo Faith Ngubane, Lance Corporal Prince Michael Mthethwa and Lance Corporal Londiwe Purity Zulu.

On Saturday (7/10), Rifleman Tshepo Stranger Pieterson, one of the members who died in an accident on the way to Lohatla, was laid to rest in Kimberley.
The Northern Cape government and organisations such as Gift of the Givers have offered support to SANDF members who were affected by the raging fires.
