DA mayor to face motion of confidence again─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:12 Fri, 15 Sep 2023
“In typical DA-style, similar to his counterpart at Metsimaholo (Mr Zwane), he pretended as if he knew nothing about the bodyguard driver being a technical advisor in tender processes, which is illegal.”
The future of the DA mayor in the Sasolburg-based Metsimaholo Municipality hangs in the balance with renewed threats to oust him through a motion of no confidence.
Trouble mounts for Jeff Zwane as the EFF plans to bring a motion of no confidence against him and the council speaker after a forensic report by Molefi Ntleru Inc. Attorneys' alleged the municipal manager and chief financial officer were involved in corruption regarding a R2 million security tender.
EFF Fezile Dabi's regional chairperson, April Motaung, said the mayor had failed dismally to improve the municipality's compliance. The Auditor-General, Tsakani Maluleke, found Zwane had failed to address transgressions from past years raised by the AG.
"In typical DA-style, similar to his counterpart at the Metsimaholo Local Municipality, Mr Zwane, pretended as if he knew nothing about the bodyguard-driver being a technical advisor in tender processes, which is illegal.•
Meanwhile, the DA caucus leader, Thulani Mbana, said the office of the executive mayor has received the motion of no confidence, adding calling it an attempt to score political points as the allegations against Zwane are baseless.
"You see how they have flooded social media platforms with it that is not based on principles but pure desire to settle whatever political score they may have against the DA and the Executive Mayor. At this point, the office of the mayor is studying the motion and we will respond accordingly in due course," Mbana said.
OFM News previously reported that Zwane was ousted through a motion of no confidence, but he was later reinstated through a court order which found that a sitting held to oust him, was invalid and unlawful.
