Inmate wanted after escape from North West prison─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 08:41 Mon, 14 Aug 2023
A 22-year-old inmate, Pule Vitals Mahanetsa, is being wanted by the police after he escaped from the Rustenburg Correctional Centre (Medium A), based in North West.
The Department of Correctional Services’ spokesperson, Tshidi Mapole, said the department is working with the SAPS. A search was launched on Friday (11/08) after they noticed the inmate is no longer in the prison. Mahanetsa is a Lesotho national, who escaped while serving three months for immigration. He is also on trial for murder.
”Investigations into the escape incident have been instituted and the circumstances relating to the escape will be revealed once the investigation has been concluded.”
The Department is appealing to the public to assist with any information that may lead to the rearrest of Mahanetsa. He is considered dangerous and if spotted, information should be shared with officers at the nearest police station.
