SA Schools' Hockey Nationals underway in Bloemfontein─── ZENANDE MPAME 11:46 Thu, 29 Jun 2023
The much-awaited annual tournament, which highlights the growing hockey talent in South Africa, was inaugurated with an opening ceremony over the weekend in Bloemfontein.
Before the action began this week, hundreds of young hockey players were given a hearty welcome in anticipation of the 18-day festival.
Players from three age groups will compete in the premier annual school hockey competition.

The event opened with the U-18 tournament, which is currently underway and ending tomorrow, followed by the U-13 competition, played between 2-5 July, and the U-16 event, to be contested between 7-12 July.
Over the first three days of play in the pool rounds of the U-18 event, there were exceptional performances in every category.

“Apart from the cold, the mood and the vibe have been great. There is a lot of excitement among the players, managers, coaches, and the officials,” says SASHOC Treasurer, Colin Bartle.”
Tomorrow marks the end of the U-18 tournament and viewers can expect exciting hockey.
“We are not sure yet who will play in the finals, as it is the semi-finals today. But people can expect exciting hockey for the finals. I mean these are the top two teams in the country.

We can expect top-quality hockey to be played tomorrow,” says Bartle.
