The DA in the Koffiefontein-based Letsemeng Municipality in the Free State has criticised the construction delays at the Koffiefontein bridge.
The bridge has been under construction for months following warnings of safety and some of the risks the bridge posed to motorists and pedestrians.
According to the DA's Letsemeng councillor, Mariska Potgieter, it's been months of construction and still no end in sight. She said for the community, the Koffiefontein Bridge project has become a thorn in their side. Potgieter said the delay poses serious threats to the locals' safety, financial stability, and overall quality of life.
"The DA will pursue this matter through questions in the Free State Legislature and continue to advocate for the community of Letsemeng. the Government must be held accountable and the DA will share any new information as we continue to pressure the current government," Potgieter added.
Potgieter conducted an oversight visit at the bridge, alongside the DA's Free State spokesperson for Roads, James Letuka, and DA Councillors in Letsemeng, Mariska Potgieter and Thabo Nthapo, along with members of the DA Letsemeng Caucus.
