Man walks through Free State to restore peace, stability─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 08:33 Thu, 20 Apr 2023
A man who began walking across South Africa in January 2022 in an effort to promote peace, has been making his way through the Free State.
Siyanda Dlamini said when he arrived in the Free State from KwaZulu-Natal, his first stop was in Harrismith. It was initially supposed to be Winburg, however, a road closure after an accident delayed his journey.
Dlamini stated that South Africans have a duty to restore peace and stability, because the two do not exist in the country anymore. “We must all become peace ambassadors in our communities. Love and responsibility must be one of the main tools to use while we try to restore peace in South Africa.”
Upon arriving at Winburg on 12 April 2023, after taking the N5, he joined the Democratic Alliance in the town for their cleaning programme. He explained that on the day they went to the informal settlement and cleaned a space for a planned netball court. He proceeded to walk to Bloemfontein after the cleanup.
He further explained he will be walking across the country for the next five years –helping out where he can because he believes this is a way he can help restore peace and stability.
“In South Africa, we still have people who don't have access to clean water. Some people do not have a choice but to drink the available, dirty water. While people are battling with access to clean water, they also do not have access to quality healthcare. In reality, there is no clinic to help them when they get sick after drinking that water.”

He said the people in South Africa have the potential to make more money on their own and to stop relying on the government that has let them down so many times. He believes it is possible for different groups of people to collaborate and develop items that they can export to other countries in order to make more money and also create employment.
In Bloemfontein, he was able to interact with different people about his mission of walking for peace. He added that during his stay in the town, he was campaigning for people to know more about peace and how they can take part. He does not expect anyone to make any donations of money to his mission because money is not the reason he is doing this.
He previously told OFM News he wants peace so that people will be free from anger and poverty. “I believe peace is one of the ingredients of economic growth. I want us to create opportunities for ourselves and others. That is why we must restore peace in our country so that we will be able to develop ourselves, all of us. We need to come together as one.”
