The alleged stock thieves and killers of two North West police officers from Mareetsane will finally stand trial this year in July, following their arrests in 2021.

Five suspects, including a 16-year-old teenage boy, will stand trial for the murder of Constable Simon Ngakaemang Ntsekeletsa (50), and Sergeant Mojalefa Horatius Molete (42) in the North West High Court.

The suspects are accused of malicious damage to property, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of ammunition, possession of a semi-automatic firearm, kidnapping, possession of ammunition with the intent to commit an offence, and defeating the ends of justice.

Police spokesperson, Brenda Muridili, previously told OFM News the officers went missing whilst chasing stock theft suspects in the area.

Search efforts led to the discovery of a torched police vehicle in the bushes outside Moseta. She said the evening the officers were attending to complaints in the precinct they lost contact with their commander at the Community Service Centre (CSC).

Muridili said hours after the two went missing, police instituted a search for the officers.

According to North West’s National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, the trial was set to commence between 13 and 17 March 2023, however, the matter had to be rolled over on the first day to allow some defence attorneys to have final consultations with their clients.

The 16-year-old minor was granted bail of R1000 in October 2021 and was left in the care of a guardian. The other four suspects were denied bail and will remain in police custody until the matter is concluded.
