The Free State MEC for Education, Tate Makgoe, and his bodyguard died after their vehicle collided with three cows on the N1 outside Winburg.
According to Palesa Chubisi, spokesperson for Premier Mxolisi Dukwana, the jaws of life had to be used to free the vehicle’s occupants.
Unfortunately, two people, including MEC Makgoe, were declared dead on the scene.
The driver is said to have suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Winburg’s hospital for stabilisation. He was later transported to a hospital in Bloemfontein.
Meanwhile, newly elected Premier Dukwana is expected to address the media shortly.
