Trio sentenced for illegally selling medicine─── BAMBATHA GIKO 14:44 Thu, 09 Feb 2023
Three Northern Cape men have been found guilty of dealing in and possession of scheduled medicine.
Hawks spokesperson Captain Tebogo Thebe says the trio, who appeared in the Kuruman Regional Court on Tuesday 7 February 2023, were each sentenced to a R 6000 fine with an alternative two years imprisonment and an additional sentence of four years imprisonment.
They were also wholly suspended on the condition that they are not found guilty of contravening the Medicines and Related Substance Act.
It’s alleged that Jean Claude Uitlander, Arthur Tshitse, and Ismael Mokhoenyane sold the medication for R300 000, while the actual value was estimated to be over R190 000.
Thebe said the Hawks arrested them in May 2018, after they received information on the accused's intention to sell anti-retroviral medication illegally.
