Poelano Secondary School in Goedgevonden Village, Ventersdorp, received newly constructed bathroom facilities from the Public Investment Corporation (PIC).

The PIC, in collaboration with Imbatha Solutions, officially handed over the 15 units on Tuesday 31 January 2023. The PIC says the handover comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa called on South Africans, corporations, and non-governmental organisations to join the South African government's Sanitation Appropriate For Education (SAFE) initiative to aid in eliminating pit latrines at schools.

The SAFE initiative was launched in August 2018.

In 2018, the department confirmed 3 898 schools are dependent on pit toilets and it aimed to complete the project before the end of the 2022/23 financial year.

Poelano learners also received sanitary bins for female bathrooms and 200 hygiene care packs, containing a draw-string bag with essential toiletry items.

Meanwhile, another North West school had a much-needed renovation. The North West Legislature's Basetsana Sussana Dantjie visited the Ramotlhajwe Primary School in the Moses Mabhida Local Municipality in the Ramotlahajoe Village, Silkaatskop, on 31 January 2023.

Spokesperson of the Legislature, Namhla Luhambe, says the visit comes after the speaker made a commitment to repaint the school during the Mandela Day Commemoration on 18 July 2022. The school received furniture and sanitary towels. Dantjie further handed over school shoes to some children.
