Suspects arrested for theft and damaging school property in Free State─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 07:21 Sun, 08 Jan 2023
Free State police arrested five suspects for intentional damage to property and theft at the Ganyane Primary School in Bloemfontein.
The police say they received information from a community member who learned about the burglary at the school and knew of possible suspects who live in Phahameng.
Police recovered some of the stolen stationery after searching the first house.
A 20-year-old man was arrested, while follow-up information led to the arrest of a second 21-year-old man.
A third suspect was arrested in one of the houses in the street where the school is located.
The suspects then took the police to two shops where they sold the stolen stationery.
Two business owners were also arrested.
"The first 36-year-old store manager - a foreign national - was arrested in Bataung street. Another foreign national aged 37, who is also a store manager, was arrested at Joe Slovo in Phahameng. Books, rulers, rubbers, pens, pencils, sharpeners, and other kinds of stationery were recovered from the stores.
The five suspects will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday 9 January 2023. Further arrests are expected," says Free State police spokesperson Thabo Covane.
Investigations are ongoing.
