The Northern Cape Department of Education is mourning the death of Peter Theodore Alexander Cloete, a District Director of Namakwa.

Cloete passed away on Wednesday morning, 28 December 2022, after losing his battle with cancer.

The department says Cloete was a dedicated, committed public servant, who served the education sector with distinction and still had so much to offer.

He is also described as an outstanding activist leader in the Namakwa district.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Angie Motshekga said that she is saddened by the passing of Cloete who served 31 years in the education sector in various capacities as an educator, deputy education specialist and district director.

"We have lost not only a brilliant leader but a teacher and a manager with enormous passion and vigour, in my interaction with Mr Cloete, fondly known as PTA at my quarterly meetings with all district directors.

"He came across as a vibrant, energetic and passionate manager, with excellent and quality leadership much needed in the sector," she said.

Motshekga sent her heartfelt condolences to Cloete's family, colleagues and friends. She further stated that the Northern Cape education department's flag would be flying at half-mast in his honour.
