More than 60 fatalities reported on North West roads─── 07:00 Tue, 27 Dec 2022
The North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management appeals to road users to comply with traffic regulations.
This is as more than 60 people died in various road accidents across the province since the beginning of December.
However, the number of fatalities is said to be 20% less than during the same period last year.
The department's spokesperson, Oshebeng Koonyaditse, says all arterial routes have recorded higher than normal traffic volumes.
Koonyaditse told OFM News that MEC Sello Lehari had ordered law enforcement officers to strictly apply the law, especially on violations, as all fatal crashes result from deviant driver behaviour.
Koonyaditse said about eleven people died over the Christmas weekend. One of the deceased is a 61-year-old woman who was hit by a vehicle while waiting for a taxi in Zeerust.
