Residents of the Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality in the Free State have been warned about individuals pretending to be municipal auditors.
Communication manager Thabo Kessah says the scammers go around to businesses and households to rob people.
According to Kessah, none of the municipalities' auditors are allowed to collect cash, adding that if anyone asks for money, it is a scam.
He further made it clear that municipal auditors wear navy blue and orange uniforms with a municipal logo.
Kessah says they must also produce a name tag with the required particulars whenever they visit businesses and households.
