The North West Premier is mourning the passing of the late struggle veteran and trade unionist Rita Alice Ndzanga.
Premier Bushy Maape reflected on Ndzanga’s participation in the liberation struggle, citing that she belonged to a generation of stalwarts who dedicated their lives to the liberation of the country. Maape also stated that Ndzanga was instrumental in the formation of the South African Congress of Trade Unions.
Ndzanga, who was the third child of Isaac and Alina More, was born on 17 October 1933 at the Mogopa Village near Ventersdorp. She passed away last week Wednesday at the age of 88. Her husband, Lawrence Ndzanga, died in prison in 1977 after he was incarcerated for political activities.
Maape also described Ndzanga as one of the people who belonged to a generation of leaders who were ethical, resilient, and selfless. He further hailed her as a trailblazer whose fighting spirit and sacrifices will be engraved in the country’s revolutionary discourse and particularly organised labour.
He adds that Ndzanga diligently served workers and prioritised their interests, particularly in dismantling Apartheid and its draconian laws. According Maape, her contributions as a Member of Parliament form part of a rich legacy that she leaves behind. Maape conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and comrades of the late Ndzanga.
