A Kimberley-based medical practitioner in the Northern Cape has been arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old patient.
The Provincial National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Mojalefa Senokotsoane, says the 17-year-old victim allegedly visited the accused's surgery for a consultation on Thursday.
He says the accused allegedly raped the victim during the medical examination.
Senokotsoane adds that the teenager left the surgery and the following day informed her aunt about the incident. A case was opened with the police. He says the accused was arrested and charged with rape.
"The Medical Doctor has appeared in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court where he is facing a charge of rape. He is accused of having raped a 17-year-old patient of his.
"His case has been postponed to 22 August for a possible bail application and bail information. He has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance," said Senokotsoane.
Meanwhile Senokotsoane concludes that the investigations led by police continue.
