#ANCvsANC: Court interdicts voting powers at conference | News Article
North West premier, Bushy Maape.

A group of disgruntled ANC members in the North West has successfully interdicted voting powers at the ninth planned ANC elective conference.

On Friday night a High Court judge, Frances Maria Magrietha Snyman, ruled that at least 20 members of the ANC's temporary structure, called an Interim Provincial Committee (IPC), cannot part-take in the voting processes of the conference.

The judge has since ordered the IPC as the respondent in the matter, to pay the cost of the application.

Judge Snyman said in her judgment that it is declared that the first respondent does not have voting powers in the ANC provincial election scheduled from 12 to 14 August.

Over 1 000 voting and non-voting delegates were expected to take part at the conference.

The court action by irate ANC members, led by former Dr Kenneth Kaunda's regional secretary, Lopang Rothman, amongst others, comes after a slew of complaints about the processes which they claimed were flawed.

OFM News previously reported that Rothman said some branches in the province weren't given enough time.

Rothman once told OFM News that some ward councilors who meant to contest the 2021 November local elections, were removed and replaced by those who did not receive the majority support of communities from their different wards.

He said in some instances it was discovered that there were no community meetings held in certain wards.

The chairperson's position of the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) is expected to see a heated race from at least five candidates, including current premier Bushy Maape and former Premier Supra Mahumapelo.
