Free State police vehicles raise eyebrows─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 12:07 Mon, 11 Jul 2022

The shortage of police vehicles at the Kutlwanong Police Station in Odendaalsrus came to the fore during an unexpected visit by Free State MEC for Police, Roads, and Transport.
According to police who work at the station, other vehicles have been at the garage for some time as they need to be serviced, while residents are left stranded due to the lack of a police fleet.
MEC William Bulwane was told that some of these vehicles need a battery, others only need new tyres, while one police vehicle is without blue lights. The police vehicle in question is also without a radio and police officers at the Kutlwanong Police Station informed Bulwane that, instead of using radios in vehicles to communicate, they use their phones.
Bulwane pleaded with Kutlwanong police to join hands with their seniors and other stakeholders from a supply chain to be able to solve their issues as it seemed evident that there was a serious communication breakdown between different parties.

He told them that some of these issues they have, they need to solve themselves, as he cannot come all the way from Bloemfontein to solve all their issues while they just sit and complain. Bulwane also expressed concern that police from Odendaalsrus and Kutlwanong did not work together and those from Odendaalsrus did not bring their resources to assist in Kutlwanong while their station remains closed.
"The reason for me to come to Kutlwanong, is I was told that some of the members were brought here, and they were brought as individuals with no resources. There is no van that came from that particular police station, meaning all the resources belonging to that police station that is not working is in the hands of those individuals."
Bulwane, however, promised that he will make arrangements with relevant stakeholders for him to visit the police garage in the area in order to see what problems other vehicles have, and also what can be done to repair these cars.
