NW to boost #tourism industry─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 07:26 Tue, 14 Jun 2022
The North West is looking at growing the economy by investing into the tourism industry.
The Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT) has set aside R32.5 million for infrastructure projects at the Taung Hotel School and Orkney Hotel School - through the Independent Development Trust (IDT).
MEC Kenetswe Mosenogi said during the cluster post-budget speech that the establishment of the hotel schools are aimed at promoting tourism economy in those districts and to ensure skills development and job creation.
According to Mosenogi, DEDECT will also implement a heritage site infrastructure project through IDT in greater Taung in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality, and R35.2 million has been allocated for the project.

North West Premier Bushy Maape had previously highlighted that in order to help the economy of the province grow, local government not only met with role-players from the mining sector, but also with role-players in the agricultural and tourism sectors.
Meanwhile, in 2021 the Taung Hotel School came under intense scrutiny when media reports surfaced from 2019, alleging the department had coughed up R4.4 million for a boom-gate system at the school, and a further R3.4 million for a fence at the school.
