Teacher gunned down in North-West province─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:50 Tue, 31 May 2022
A 45-year old teacher was shot and killed at Rutanang Primary School, Geelhout Park in Rustenburg in front of the school's gate.
According to North West police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, the teacher was allegedly shot and killed at approximately 07:00.
According to information received, she was shot at a close range by two suspects who are still at large.
The suspects are said to have fled the scene on foot and did not take anything from her car.
“According to information received, the teacher was in her Toyota Fortuner in front of the school gate when the suspects approached and shot her at close range. The suspects, who did not take anything from the car, walked away from the scene on foot. Subsequent to the summoning of the police and paramedics, the teacher was declared dead at the scene. The motive of the incident is yet to be determined. Investigation into the matter continues and no arrest has been effected at this stage,” Mokgwabone adds.
Mokgwabone further adds that Provincial Commissioner, Sello Kwena, expressed his shock over what he termed the “callous act” of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). He urged members of the community to work together with the police to ensure that the suspects are brought to book.
In 2020 a 25-year-old female teacher was allegedly strangled to death at her home near Moruleng in the Moses Kotane Local Municipality in the North West.

A 43-year-old teacher was also gunned down in front of her house in Tlhabane West near Rustenburg in 2019.
Meanwhile, North West police management have intensified the manhunt for the two gun-wielding assailants.
Mokgwabone says SAPS Management commissioned the activation of a 72-hour plan to hunt down the two assailants. The activation plan includes highly skilled officials from a multi-disciplinary team.
Mokgwabone says the motive of the incident is yet to be determined.
“Investigation into the matter continues and no arrest has been effected at this stage,” Mokgwabone adds.
