A fight between two primary school learners in the Free State, that ended in the death of one learner, sent shockwaves throughout the province last night.
The news broke late last night that a Grade 6 boy died, allegedly at the hands of a classmate, when he got stabbed during a fight, mere meters away from the schoolyard.
Free State Education MEC, Tate Makgoe, expressed shock after the death of a learner at Zama Primary School in Zastron.
The department said the fight broke out at school and the two boys got sent home to return with their parents.
The department said the headmaster of Zama Primary School broke up the fight at the school grounds when one of the learners - who was allegedly bullying another - also attempted to stab his classmate with a spoon. But when they were sent home to return with their parents, one allegedly returned with a knife instead and stabbed his classmate.
The Grade 6 learner died on the way to the hospital.
This is a developing story.
