Uncertainty about Mangaung workers' salaries | News Article

Workers of the troubled Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro Municipality are waiting in anticipation to find out if the Metro will this week pay their salaries.

This as the power struggle at the metro continues.

OFM News previously reported that trouble at the metro seem to be exacerbating even further with municipal leadership at loggerheads with each other.

Mayor Mxolisi Siyonzana previously wrote to the acting City Manager (CM), Mzingisi Nkungwana, demanding that he return all the property of the metro and that he cease executing his powers as city manager. Responding to OFM News' inquiry, Nkungwana said without an acting CM, workers might not be paid.

"Workers may suffer because after losing in court he did the most bizarre thing of taking the law into his hands and sending security guards to chase me from work. Politics are involved as I am seen or viewed to belong to another faction, which I am not. He has started to hate me also because I have blocked many of his corrupt dealings like this ghost political staff," Nkungwana added.

Siyonzana dragged the speaker and the council to court and asked for the court to give an order to interdict Nkungwana from executing any of the powers of the office or even from setting a foot inside the premises. His urgent application to court was, however, struck off the roll.

Siyonzana's urgent application to the Free State High Court comes after the council allegedly voted to extend Nkungwana's fixed-term contract.

This video that was taken of the Acting Municipal Manager being "escorted" out of the offices, are making the rounds on social media.

OFM News has sent a media enquiry to the Mangaung Metro and is awaiting a response.
