UFS appoints new director for student counselling and development─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 09:07 Wed, 09 Feb 2022
The University of the Free State (UFS) has welcomed a new staff member to their institution.
Dr Munita Dunn-Coetzee was appointed as the new Director of Student Counselling and Development after her previous stint at Stellenbosch University as Deputy Director of the Centre for Students’ Structures and Communities, and later as the Director of the Centre for Student Counselling and Development.
In a statement issued by the university, Dunn-Coetzee is regarded as someone who has long-term goals that are bound to positively impact both students and staff in her department.
“I would like for students to walk in here and feel comfortable, it doesn’t matter what you identify as - there is space for you here. I would like to have a research focus within our department. It is very easy to say that we are doing good work and that we have an impact on our students, but we need to have something that proves it,” she adds.
Dunn-Coetzee said that she is hoping to open up space for young psychologists during her time at the university, and also develop her staff as much as she can.
