A Range Rover is amongst the vehicles that have been swept away by floods reported on the R30 road between Allanridge and Bothaville in the Free State.

Provincial police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, tells OFM News that in addition to the Intercape bus liner that found itself trapped in the area on Saturday morning, a truck, sedan and Range Rover were reportedly caught by the flooding on the roads of late.

Thakeng says there are warning signs on the dangers of this part of the road, but it appears there are some drivers not taking heed of said signs.

Thakeng says when motorists reach that part of the R30, they must make use of alternative routes because the danger should not be underestimated.

According to Thakeng, all the passengers of the Intercape bus liner – overall 86 passengers which included children – have been rescued and no injuries have been reported.

This is also corroborated by the spokesperson of emergency medical services in the province, Sipho Towa.

The Intercape bus was reportedly en route to Pretoria, Gauteng from Umtata in the Eastern Cape when the incident occurred.

Flooding has also been reported elsewhere on the R30 between Brandfort and Welkom.
