The Festive Season Road Safety Campaign aims to prioritise and promote safer road usage during the high peak season on South African roads.

The Premier of the Free State, Sisi Ntombela, says the province is excited to have Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula launching his national Festive Season Road Safety Campaign in the Caleb Motshabi township in the Free State on Monday/today.

Ntombela addressed residents of all ages, national and local law enforcement agencies, including traffic and police officials, on the dangers of drinking and driving this festive season. She says whilst driving this festive season, road users should not take chances. Ntombela also addressed the 16 Days of Activism campaign that runs from 25 November to 25 December annually, saying a nation who kills its women and children is a nation who kills itself.

OFM News previously reported that national and local law enforcement agencies, including traffic and police officials, are displaying a large fleet of law enforcement vehicles in Bloemfontein.

Officials drove from across the country, including the North West and Northern Cape, amongst others provinces. All preparations for the event have been completed and local residents from around the area are also trickling in for the festive season message by Mbalula.

The statement issued adds that the objective of the campaign is to ensure a smooth flow of traffic, but also to prevent negligent and reckless driving which could result in accidents.
