The former Free State premier, along with his co-accused, are back at the Bloemfontein High Court on Wednesday for the continuation of the asbestos-project trial.

Ace Magashule, along with 15 co-accused - including former MEC for Human Settlements, Olly Mlamleli, and businessman, Edwin Sodi - faces charges of fraud, corruption, and money laundering. These charges stem from the failed R255 million asbestos roof eradication project.

In October 2021, Judge President Cagney Musi postponed the matter for the continuation of the pre-trial conference. This was to allow all the accused, including Magashule, ample time to submit their responding affidavits to the charges levelled against them by the state.

OFM News previously reported that Magashule wants access to the state’s list of witnesses that are said to implicate him in the unlawful project.

Meanwhile, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is adamant that they have a formidable case against the accused in the criminal case regarding the asbestos housing audit.

The accused, in this case, includes Limpopo businessman, Edwin Sodi; former Mangaung Metro Mayor, Olly Mlamleli; the former head of the Free State Department of Human Settlements, Nthimotse Mokhesi; the Director for Supply Chain Management at Human Settlements, Mahlomola John Matlakala; a businessman residing in Johannesburg, Sello Joseph Radebe; a Pretoria businessman, Abel Kgotso Manyeki; the former Director-General for the National Department of Human Settlements, Thabane Wiseman Zulu; and Albertus Venter, who occupied a role in the Free State Premier’s office.
