NW SAPS murder case further delayed | News Article

The ill-health of the prosecutor has led to a further delay in the murder case of two North West police officers.

The National Prosecuting Authority's spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, says that the Itsoseng Regional Court postponed the case against five men accused of killing two Mareetsane police officers to 13 October for formal bail application.

He says that four of the suspects involved in the murder will remain in police custody, while the other accused - who is a minor - has been detained at a Child and Youth Centre until the next court appearance.

“Proceedings on this bail hearing started on 17 September 2021, when the defence attorney submitted affidavits in their application for formal bail. The state is expected to open its case by leading evidence through the investigating officer in opposition of bail when the matter appears in court.

"It is also important to note that the minor in this case will appear with the other four accused, as their bail application has now been combined,” he adds.

OFM News previously reported bodies of the two police officers were found burnt after they went missing whilst chasing stock theft suspects.

Mamothame says that Benjamin Jacobs, Jeremiah Mongale, Rapulana Keikantse, Matthews Modukane and a 16-year-old boy are facing charges of murder, malicious damage to property and the possession of a stolen firearm.
