#SchoolsReopening: 'No FS schools reported need to shut down'─── 08:17 Fri, 06 Aug 2021
No schools in the Free State so far reported that they had to shut down since the reopening of schools for the third term.
This is according to the Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, after she addressed the media on Thursday during her oversight visit at the Botlehadi Primary School. Following an announcement that primary school learners are expected to attend school at full capacity and on a daily basis, Motshekga said that the shutdowns in provinces usually occur when the province has a higher rate of positive cases. She said that Gauteng has had its schools shut down because of a higher number of positive Covid-19 cases.
Motshekga also stated that an increase of Covid-19 infections in schools is also caused by contact sports, thus, it was decided that contact sport should be placed on hold.
