#CoronavirusNW: Police vaccination starts─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 06:24 Wed, 07 Jul 2021
The vaccination of police officers in the North West against Covid-19 is to kick off on Wednesday.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the North West confirms its vaccination rollout programme to inoculate all police officers in the province is expected to get underway without many hiccups.
It confirms plans are to vaccinate 10 545 employees at the eight registered vaccination sites across the province. Provincial police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, says the North West police Provincial Commissioner, Sello Kwena, and senior managers will lead the SAPS Covid-19 vaccination roll-out programme and will form part of the first group of police officers and SAPS personnel to be vaccinated.
"This is part of governments’ national Covid-19 vaccination programme to vaccinate the general population, frontline workers in the security cluster and occupational health workplace services," he said.
The rollout of the programme in the North West comes after Police Minister, Bheki Cele, launched the police's Covid-19 vaccination drive at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg, on Monday.
Cele announced that they plan to vaccinate more than 180 000 members at 108 sites across the country.
