The EFF in the Free State says it's encouraged by the fighting spirit of the SABC presenter who was brutally attacked and stabbed multiple times by her estranged husband in Bloemfontein.

The EFF's provincial chairperson, Mandisa Makesini, says although the news of Dimakatso Raletsane's attack was a painful experience, the party is glad that she is attending to the issue. She says they are inspired that Dimakatso is able to speak about the tale of her abuse at the hands of Mackenzie Raletsane, who is still in custody and facing charges of assault, kidnapping, attempted murder, and the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition. Makesini says the gender-based violence (GBV) scourge in the Free State needs to be addressed and dealt with.

Mackenzie is due in the Regional Court on Tuesday and is expected to plea to the charges.

Mackenzie previously abandoned his bail application in the Magistrate's Court on his second appearance.

Mackenzie was arrested by the police after he brutally attacked his wife. Before his capture, the latter went on the run for days. He was arrested in Ennerdale in Gauteng. His arrest came after Dimakatso was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds in Bloemfontein. Mackenzie and Dimakatso are said to have quarreled on their way to fetch their children in Phase 2. She was later found by friends and residents in the Dinaweng area near a popular tavern and was subsequently sent to the Pelonomi Netcare Hospital.
