Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela has described Bereng Soke - coordinator of the fight against gender-based violence, working in the Office of the Premier - as a true activist.
Ntombela attended Soke’s funeral in Botshabelo on Friday.
“He worked hard to rid our society of social ills such as the abuse of women and children. The void left by his passing will be felt for years to come,” Ntombela said in a Facebook post on Friday.
The Premier also said she was moved by the support that was shown by the people of Botshabelo, as well as the presence of the South African Communist Party’s (SACP) leadership. Soke was the SACP’s Free State Provincial Secretary at the time of his untimely passing,
Ntombela was also pleased to see the Minister of Higher Education Blade Nzimande, Science and Technology first Deputy General Secretary Solly Mapaila, second Deputy General Secretary Chris Mathlako, as well as Thulas Nxesi - the Minister of Employment and Labour.
