Men walk from EC to oppose #FarmMurders─── 13:46 Wed, 09 Dec 2020
Supporting the fight against farm murders, a man has taken it upon himself to walk hundreds of kilometres from East London to Senekal.
Petrus Sitho (31) started his campaign in his hometown of East London last week Friday and arrived in Bloemfontein on Tuesday. The Free State leader of the opposition party and DA Caucus Leader in the Free State Legislature, Roy Jankielsohn, met Sitho at the Engen garage at Northridge Mall in Bloemfontein in support of his campaign against farm murders in South Africa.
Sitho says he, and two other men who joined him along the way, Mangaliso Nyila and Sakhumzi Qave, have received threats but their purpose is to walk to Senekal and then to Paul Roux to visit the family of Brendin Horner, the 21-year-old farm manager from Paul Roux in the Free State who was allegedly killed by suspected stock thieves.
Sitho says farm murders needs to stop as South African farmers are food providers and what has happened in Zimbabwe must be prevented. He says he has received threats from people who want to kill him who demands that he stop his campaign. He refuses to stop as he is convinced that God is going to protect him and he believes that this awareness will wake up South African people - whether they are black, Indian, coloured or white.
Sitho was born in the Free State but has been staying in East London in the Eastern Cape for the past few years. It is alleged that he gave up his work to campaign against farm murders. He first made headlines back in October in Senekal when he stood up for farmers by chaining his hands and his feet, protesting against farm murders. The video went viral gaining both positive and negative publicity.
They have since started their journey to Senekal.
