The DA in the Free State has elected a Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL), Roy Jankielsohn, as its new provincial party leader.
Jankielsohn takes the reigns from Patricia Kopane, who earlier announced that she would not be contesting the position. Among the party leaders who were elected into prominent positions are Werner Horn, who was elected as Provincial Chairperson, Carina Serfontein, as his deputy, and David van Vuuren as the party's provincial Finance Chairperson.
Jankielsohn, Van Vuuren as well as another MP, Leona Kleynhans, have been some of the key figures within the party who exposed some of the Free State's biggest scandals - including the failed R255 million asbestos tender, and the Estina Vrede Dairy project. The elections of these leaders comes weeks after the DA Member of Parliament (MP) John Steenhuisen, was elected as national party leader.
MP Greg Krumbock says the party election was held on Saturday via an online platform and their results were scrutinised by a professional audit firm who acted as independent external auditors.
“The DA has congratulated the elected leaders. The party now enters an exciting new chapter and will deliver real hope and real change to the people of South Africa, now," Krumbock further adds.
