A group of protestors stormed the Senekal Magistrate's Court building in the Free State on Tuesday after the murder case of the 21-year-old Brendin Horner was postponed, demanding that the suspects be handed over to them.
Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says court property was damaged as protesters forced their way to the court cells. “Two shots were fired but no-one was injured,” adds Makhele.
The suspects - 32-year-old Sekwetje Isaiah Mahlamba and 44-year-old Sekola Piet Matlaletsa - will remain in custody.
They are expected to appear in the Paul Roux Magistrate's Court on 16 October 2020.
Makhele says a group of protesting farmers stormed the court building after the case was adjourned, demanding that the suspects be handed over to them. He explains that court property were damaged as protesters forced their way to the court cells. “Two shots were fired from this group but no one was injured,” adds Makhele.
OFM News recently reported that a South African Police Services' (SAPS) van parked outside the court building was also overturned and burned.
