A commotion broke out between protesters and the South African Police Services (SAPS) in a small farming town of Senekal in the Free State following the court appearance of two suspected killers of the 21-year-old farm manager, Brendin Horner.

According to eyewitnesses, irate farmers blocked the police entrance inside the premises of the Senekal Magistrate's Court, as officers were trying to prevent protesters from entering the premises after farmers gained entrance into the court in pursuit of the two murder suspects.

A police van was overturned and It is alleged that two shots were fired in retaliation. Meanwhile, police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, when asked for a comment in relation to the commotion, told OFM News that the police had everything under control.

Today a large contingent of farmers, workers, and ordinary citizens protested outside the Local Magistrate's Court during the appearance of the two suspected murderers.

It is understood that farmers as far as KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape, North West, and the Northern Cape came in support of the protests. They have criticised the government for failing to intervene and farmers argue that police aren’t doing enough to curb farm murders.

The two suspected murderers were remanded in custody and will re-appear on 16 October 2020. They are said to re-appear at the Paul Roux Magistrate Court where the murder is set to have taken place on Thursday.

OFM News previously reported that Horner's body was found at an open space on a farm and that his body was discovered with injuries to his head and face. He had been tied up with a rope around his neck. Police received a call from other farmers reporting the attack at De Rots Farm and while police were on the scene they seized a knife.

His Toyota Hilux was later found with bloodstains, abandoned near the Duikfontein Farm.

Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, told OFM News that "bloodstained clothes and shoes of the two suspects were found and will be taken for forensic tests. Makhele added that the two men are alleged to have been stock thieves and it is suspected that the deceased could have spotted them on that fateful day.
