The Free State joined South Africa and the world in celebrating International Nurses Day today amidst the fight to curb the effects of Covid-19.
The MEC of Health, Montsheng Tsiu, the HOD, David Motau, and more than 300 nurses joined the Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize, via streaming in observing the International Nurses Day. The departmental spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, says everybody observed social distancing at these gatherings.
He says Tsiu and Motau were with 27 nurses at one of the sites. Meanwhile, 300 other nurses also gathered at 35 other sites.
The theme for International Nurses Day 2020 is “Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Nursing the World to Health”. Mvambi says this theme demonstrates how nurses are central to addressing a wide range of health challenges.
According to the World Health Organisation State of Nursing Report, South Africa's nurses account for 52% of the total healthcare workforce in the country.
