The final report that centres on the controversial affairs of the North West Traditional Council is set to be released on Saturday 08 February.

Premier Job Mokgoro’s report is expected to respond to the allegations that the tribal chief of Baphalane ba Ramokoka and the traditional council were misappropriating and misusing the tribe’s funds in 2018.

The community alleged that the royalties from mines located within the area of the Ramokoka which is made up of nine villages were not benefiting residents.

In 2018 violent protest erupted in the area where schools in the area were shut down by residents who were on protest against the chief and the tribal council. Following the complaint by residents, Mokgoro then appointed an administrator and a team of investigators to look into issues that were then brought forward by irate individuals.

Ngesi says Mokgoro had initially intended to release the report on Tuesday, 04 February 2020 but after careful consideration, the Premier then postponed the release of the report.

Mokgoro recently released several reports looking into different tribal councils in the province. OFM News previously reported that Mokgoro told the community that the intervention measures included the appointment of investigators with clear terms of references relating to issues raised around the administration and good governance.

Two schools - Kwenatlase High School and Baphalane Primary School - were torched during the protests. Schools, clinics and buses  were shut down or disrupted as villagers wanted Kgosi Joy Ramokoka to be suspended following allegations of maladministration, demanding an administrator take over the running of the village.
