FS set to welcome new Police Commissioner | News Article
Baile Motswenyane

The newly appointed Free State Police Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, is expected to be officially welcomed in office next week.

Motswenyane takes over the reins from Moeketsi Sempe who has moved up the ranks to serve in the post of Divisional Commissioner for Visible Policing.

Motswenyane has previously served as the North West Provincial Commissioner and has more than 30 years’ work experience in the SAPS. She holds a National Diploma in Police Administration, a Postgraduate Diploma in Genetics and a B-Tech degree in Policing. During the announcement of her appointment alongside that of the gang-ridden Western Cape, Police Minister Bheki Cele said Motswenyane and others appointed in new positions will have to enhance accountability, provide structure, as well as command their respective provinces.

Free State police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, meanwhile confirms preparations for Motswenyane’s inauguration are underway.

The former head of the Hawks, Lieutenant General Yolisa Matakata, who now takes the reins as the Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, was yesterday welcomed and introduced to Premier Alan Winde.

Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, who has served as a station commander for several stations in the North West, is subsequently expected to be welcomed in Motswenyane’s former position as the North West Provincial Commissioner.

Cele has reiterated that the new management team is expected to add tremendous value towards achieving the SAPS’ service delivery agreement of combatting crime and ensuring that the people of South Africa are safe.
