Residents in Mangaung in the Free State sang praises following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s visit.

This, as they will soon move into their new homes. Military veterans, the disabled and the elderly are amongst those expected to soon move into their new homes following the official launch of the Integrated Housing Development in Mangaung.

The project launched by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Saturday is expected to see thousands of people who were without houses move into more adequate, decent houses. Coupled with this, the Hillside View Integrated Human Settlement project, which includes different housing typologies consisting of 50 homes for military veterans, 18 land restitution units, over 500 Breaking New Ground Homes and 250 bonded houses is expected to address the needs for low to middle income first-time home buyers.

Launching the project alongside the Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu, as well as her deputy David Mahlobo, Free State MEC for Public Works Tshidi Koloi, and Premier Sisi Ntombela, it was outlined that the project was initiated back in 2016 as part of the government’s commitment to provide decent accommodation to Mangaung communities.

An elderly 99-year-old, Matokelo Taole, living with her daughter and grandchildren, was one of the beneficiaries of the houses who expressed much appreciation to Ramaphosa and the Free State government.

The launch, which saw prominent Bloemfontein businessmen Freddy Kenny and Ben Moseme walking frontline with Ramaphosa, also saw hundreds receive title deeds.

Engaging some of the housing beneficiaries, Mangaung Metro Executive Mayor, Olly Mlamleli, also gave an assurance that the metro will also ensure that there is provision of municipal services in communities and encouraged them to not hesitate from engaging the municipality should they encounter any problems with municipal services.
