The case against the former North West MEC for Finance Wendy Nelson and the current Head of the Health Department (HOD) Thabo Lekalakala has been transferred to the Provincial High Court in Mahikeng for a pre-trial.

North West Hawks spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, says this follows after they both appeared in the Mmabatho Regional Court on Friday. Last month the case against Nelson and Lekalakala was postponed to the 6 of this month by the court after making a brief separate court appearance.

Nelson was arrested by the Hawks on 23 August and released on R20 000 bail, while Lekalakala handed himself over to the Hawks three days later - he and was also given bail of R20 000. Rikhotso, says the two are facing charges of fraud following Lekalakala's alleged irregular appointment as the head of the department in 2014.

OFM News previously reported that Lekalakala has been subjected to disciplinary proceedings within his department after he was charged with procurement irregularities involving the payment of R30 million to the Gupta-linked MEDIOSA Company and the misrepresentation of facts after he stated he had worked as a chief director of the department.
