Promises to fix Vereeniging taxi rank continue─── 16:13 Wed, 24 Jul 2019
The temporary taxi rank in the Vereeniging CBD in Gauteng will not be upgraded, as the focus now is to complete the old taxi rank within the next 12 months.
This is according to the Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Jacob Mamabolo, during an exclusive interview with OFM News today during the two-day provincial taxi summit which is held in Vanderbijlpark in the Vaal, Gauteng.
The Vereeniging taxi rank remains unfinished since 2013 and has previously led Vaal taxi operators to shut down the main roads connecting the townships with Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark, and Johannesburg. Mamabolo also conveyed his sympathy to the passengers who are being robbed from their belongings by criminals at the temporary taxi rank.
He, however, was not aware of the criminal activities but adds he will investigate and engage with relevant authorities, including the police, to protect customers and to prevent continuous crimes. He concluded by saying the unfinished taxi rank is part of the budget which he will formally announce on the 29th of this month.
