NWU roped in help with issues of administration in NW government | News Article

Issues of maladministration and the decay in management in most of the provincial government departments and ailing local municipalities in the North West might soon be a thing of the past.

This follows after the Public Service Commission (PSC), which is a chapter 9 institution, and the North-West University (NWU) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding to provide the know-how on how to make sure that government officials deliver a good and well-conducted public service to residents.

The university’s spokesperson Christopher Motabogi says the agreement between the two is to ensure that there is an improvement in the public service and that government officials deliver a professional service. Meanwhile, the spokesperson in the office of the premier, Vuyisile Ngesi, says the province wants to benefit from the university’s academic research that seeks to help the province with a turnaround strategy.

Motabogi says this was a historic agreement since the province was the only one in the country with no agreement with any institution that provides help in this regard. Motabogi says this is a sign of confidence in the NWU and committed that the university will ensure that the agreement will improve the lives of residents of the province.

“PSC North-West Commissioner, Dr Moeletsi Leballo, signed the MoU, accompanied by NWU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dan Kgwadi. Dr Leballo says the PSC is confident that this relationship is cultivated, will go on for generations to come,” says Motabogi.

The North West Provincial Government has placed seven municipalities under administration, bringing the number of municipalities under administration in the province to 15. The provincial government cited financial distress, the collapse of service delivery, and instability in council as the reasons for the intervention.

The affected municipalities include JB Marks, Mamusa in Schweizer-Reneke, Lekwa Teemane in Bloemhof and Christiana, Ratlou in Setlagole, Tswaing in Delareyville, Madibeng in Brits, and the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District based in Vryburg.
