Students protest at Goldfields TVET College | News Article

A large contingent of students marched through the streets of Welkom today, protesting against issues involving, amongst others, Goldfields TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) and the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

Students are demanding the college management at the Free State campus to stop the academic exclusion of those who owe tuition. Other demands by students include that part-time classes should be made available promptly.

OFM News previously reported about the disruption of colleges across the country by the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) strike. Meanwhile, the management of the college, in a telephonic conversation with OFM News, said he was not in a position to comment but further asked for questions to be sent to a certain email address.

Pictures and videos of students marching and protesting against the college are doing the rounds on social media. The students, some with sticks and in their student’s organisation regalia, are singing struggle songs.
