NW police launch 72-hour plan after Rustenburg CIT heist─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:37 Wed, 03 Apr 2019
The North West police have instituted what they call a “72-hour Activation Plan” that includes a multi-disciplinary team of Hawks investigators and forensics to track down cash-in-transit heist criminals.
This plan was instituted after gunmen made off with an undisclosed amount of money after they robbed a cash van in Rustenburg on Monday, 1 April 2019, at around 19:15.
Police spokesperson, Vish Naidoo, tells OFM News that although the plan has been activated and despite its success previously, they do not promise a 100% success rate.
Hawks spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, said a security truck was travelling from collection points on its way to the depot earlier this week when it was rammed by another vehicle along Dr Moroka Drive. She said it was further alleged the driver and his crew members were removed from the truck by an unknown number of suspects wearing balaclavas. They were made to lie on the ground facing down. Naidoo says the Special Crime Investigations Unit of the Hawks has launched a manhunt for the robbers and no-one has been arrested.
