“Before this national position, Jacobs served as Standard Bank's Head of Client Coverage in the Free State and Northern Cape provinces.”

Central South African, Brendan Jacobs has recently been appointed as the new Head of Agriculture for Business & Commercial Banking at Standard Bank SA. This role promises to leverage his extensive experience and visionary leadership to propel the bank’s agricultural sector to new heights.

Having previously served as the bank’s Head of Client Coverage in the Free State and Northern Cape provinces, Jacobs brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the agricultural sector’s unique challenges and opportunities. His transition into this national-level role is seen as a strategic move by Standard Bank to strengthen its commitment to the agricultural sector across South Africa.

In a recent interview on the OFM Business Hour, Jacobs shared his enthusiasm and strategic vision for his new position. “It’s an incredible honour to lead and expand our agri-business portfolio, particularly at a time when agriculture is crucial for economic stability and growth,” Jacobs remarked.

He emphasised the importance of maintaining sustainable practices and weighed in on commercial banks’ responsibility in adapting to the changes in the agriculture ecosystem.

As the agricultural sector faces various global and local challenges, from climate change to economic fluctuations, Jacobs’ approach involves a robust support system for farmers that includes risk management and financial solutions tailored to the cyclical nature of agriculture.

His message to the agri-community for 2024 is one of resilience and focus. “By concentrating on controllable elements within our businesses and maintaining strong partnerships, we can overcome challenges and achieve substantial growth,” he stated.
