Naval Hill Planetarium workshop a first for SA | News Article

Bloemfontein - One of the world’s leading planetarium soft and hardware producing companies, Sky-Skan, will be in Bloemfontein today, to host the country’s first ever digital sky academy workshop.

The five-day workshop will be held at Naval Hill Planetarium and will run up until next week Tuesday.

One of the presenters, the University of the Free State's Matie Hoffman, says the workshop aims to educate society about astronomy data, including the galaxy, the moon and the stars.

He explains that the country is regarded a key role player in international astronomy due to some of its big projects such as the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT).

According to him, those who attend the workshop will walk away with a clearer understanding of how the universe works.

The workshop will only be open to the public on Saturday at 18:30 and on Tuesday at 09:00. Only 40 to 80 people can be accommodated.

Send an SMS to 083 625 7154 to secure your seat.
